The Chicks Move Outside

As the Chicks rapidly outgrew their hatchery tub, we had to quickly get a coop built and move them outside. I followed Justin Rhodes’ of abundantpermaculture.com Chicken Tractor design. It was pretty easy to follow and took about a weekend to get everything and build it. I’ve also been learning about electric fences and have thoroughly tested that 3,000 volts hurts. Bobby also found that out when he couldn’t get back to the coop after spending a day digging around it. Check it all out in the video below.

The Chicks have arrived!

Our Australorp Chicks have arrived today! It was pretty exciting to go to the post office first thing in the morning and pick them up. As this is our first major step toward sustainability it was both exhilarating and daunting. Watch the video below to see the major moments of our first day of raising chickens. So far all 15 are alive, hopefully it will stay that way!
