Little Man and I were clearing out our fire pit and we stumbled upon baby bunnie

Little Man and I were clearing out our fire pit and we stumbled upon baby bunnies! Literally! I was walking around the fire pit to clear out some more grass and as I stepped down and heard a sound. It sounded like a dog squeak toy! As I hopped away in surprise, I looked down and there was a tiny Baby Bunny! Afraid that I may have crushed it, I carefully picked the tiny bunny up. To my great relief, the little critter scrambled in my hands to find a small spot to hide! All its limbs working very well. …

We think the chicks like their new home, however they may not be so keen on their upstairs neighbors! We moved the chicken tractor to the fresh grass at the top of the hill. Then the chickens got to graduate from the brooder onto fresh grass! Within seconds of us repositioning the chicken tractor, the goats took advantage of the new perch to get at fresh greens! So much so that Ethel was climbing on top of Zach to reach the vine he just pulled down! Nevertheless, the chicks seemed quite happy to have the extra space and to start …

The 37 quail are loose in the woods!

The 37 quail are loose in the woods! This past weekend we released the 37 quail from the brooder. We started them in the middle of the thicket with the chickens and goats. They took their time to venture out and hid in some nearby bushes. Now they are starting to explore! It is hilarious to see this seemingly never ending stream of quail wander on by! So happy to see them out in the woods![fb_vid id=”1521362024603090″] Source

The trilogy of the turkeys first day out of the brooder part III!

The trilogy of the turkeys first day out of the brooder part III! With bags of loose leaf lettuce in hand Joanna went out to the turkeys! Thanks to her skills as a turkey whisper/wrangler, all three are back in the chicken tractor! Earlier today we found the two smaller ones outside the fence wandering around. As they are still hawk bait size, this is not a good thing. Needless to say, we are happy to have them in their safe coop for a little while longer while they grow in size![fb_vid id=”1502633633142596″] Source

So much for a gradual introduction to the flock!

So much for a gradual introduction to the flock! We come out this morning to feed everyone and the turkeys were not in the chicken tractor! We’re not sure if the goats played with the latch or what, but the door was wide open. The turkeys seemed quite content to poke around and eat away in the thicket. I guess they will be free ranging sooner then we thought! #farmlife #freeranging[fb_vid id=”1502077539864872″] Source

We moved the turkeys out of the brooder and into the chicken tractor!

We moved the turkeys out of the brooder and into the chicken tractor! This will let them get used to being outside overnight and used to the other chickens and goats before we start letting them free range some. This also freed up a third of the brooder, so the ducks got to go swimming again and the chicks spent some time in the sun. Meanwhile I cleaned out the brooder and removed the divider to give them more room. The ducks had a blast splashing around in the pool and the chicks had fun pecking and scratching in the …

I came home from work to find a garage full of honey bees!!!

I came home from work to find a garage full of honey bees!!! After checking them out, I went and checked on my hive and everyone was still there. Reading up on it I think I have a bunch of forager bees attracted to the little bit of wax scent left on the boxes. If they move on out tonight, I’ll have to make sure I put all the bee equipment in a better place then the middle of the garage. It is a little distracting when trying to feed the other animals when several hundred bees are flying around.[fb_vid …
