Little Man was disappointed when we first got goats that he didn’t get a boy goa

Little Man was disappointed when we first got goats that he didn’t get a boy goat that he could name. Ellis Farms had Ethel’s brother whethered earlier this week and he was available. So with the ability to have a “boy” goat for Little Man and not have the risk of unplanned little goats, we decided to surprise Little Man with his new goat! I left work earlier to pick up the goat and Little Man had no idea when he first got home from school! Source

Nom Nom Nom!

Nom Nom Nom! Such yummy greens! We have decided to name this goat Lucy. She is quite adventurous and we can see where she will be the trouble maker. Our other goat is now Ethel as she follows Lucy everywhere. Even into trouble. It seems quite fitting to name them after the amazing TV duo of Lucy and Ethel of the I Love Lucy show! Fun times indeed![fb_vid id=”1433276856744941″] Source

A pretty good first day for the goats!

A pretty good first day for the goats! This afternoon we let the doelings out to explore their new home. They had a few moments of learning with the electrified poultry netting, but I think they are figuring it out with the minimum of discomfort. They really seemed to enjoy the thicket they have to browse and run through. Throughout the afternoon we found them alternating between sunning in the open and lounging in the shade. The chickens found them amusing, but didn’t seem so happy when the goats came in to eat their supper. M I cleaned out the …

These little doelings miss their mama

[fb_vid id=”1427896170616343″] Last but not least for the farm activity today, these little doelings miss their mama! When we are around they play and head but each other. As soon as we leave you hear them crying out! They only do it for a few minutes, but it still sounds so sad! We will have to make sure and spend extra time with them tomorrow. In the meantime, we are try to decide on names for these two new additions to our family. Feel free to leave suggestions in the comments![fb_vid id=”1427896170616343″] Source

Within minutes the goats try to get out

[fb_vid id=”1427891683950125″] Within minutes of putting the goats in their new home, one of them hopped up on her food trough. It only took her a minute or two to try to climb out the air space under the roof. Needless to say, I spent the next 2 hours putting up chicken wire over the air space. This gives them good top ventilation without the risk of them trying to climb out and get hurt in the fall! Less then one day in and we are beginning to see the trouble these two will enjoy causing! Fun times indeed! …

30 minutes to spare!

30 minutes to spare! I finally finished putting the roof on the new trailer …

One week until we get goats!

One week from today our two Nigerian Dwarf doeling goats from Ellis Farms come to our haven! We still have a lot of work to do to be completely ready! In the same vein of the Chickshaw coop, we are converting this trailer into the new movable goat house. We made some good progress on it this afternoon. Still need to put up the other walls and the tin roof. Then paint it and let it dry for at least a few days. Once we build the permanent home, we figure this would also make a good temporary house for …
